Your Snapchat account contains private photos, videos, Memories, conversations, and real-time location via Snap Map. A hacked Snapchat can expose intimate content, reveal your location to stalkers, and be used to scam your friends. Snapchat was breached in 2014, exposing 4.6 million usernames and phone numbers. Strong passwords are essential.
Snapchat requires passwords to be at least 8 characters long. However, this minimum provides weak protection against modern attacks. For real security, use 14+ characters combining uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
Strong Snapchat passwords look like "Sn@p#Ch@t*8QzKm" or "Str3@k$!9LxMpV". These combine various character types for maximum security. Never use your username, display name, Bitmoji name, or anything friends could guess.
To change your Snapchat password: Open Snapchat > tap your profile icon > tap the gear (Settings) > scroll to "Password" > enter your current password > enter and confirm your new password. Use our generator to create a strong password before starting.
Enable 2FA for stronger Snapchat security. Go to Settings > Two-Factor Authentication > Continue. Choose between SMS verification or an authenticator app (recommended). If using an authenticator, scan the QR code and save your recovery code somewhere safe.
If your Snapchat account is compromised: Try to log in and change your password immediately. If locked out, go to accounts.snapchat.com and use the password reset option. Check Memories for unauthorized access, review logged-in devices, and enable 2FA. Report to Snapchat support if you can't recover access.
Snap Map shares your real-time location with friends. If your account is hacked, strangers could track your movements. Enable Ghost Mode (Settings > See My Location > Ghost Mode) for privacy. Even with a strong password, consider who can see your location.
